KIDS: DIY Robot costume

Jamie whipped up this amazing DIY robot costume for her son. I love that she used dryer vents for his arms and legs! How creative is that! She used spray adhesive to attach the tin foil to the boxes and red solo cups for the side of the robots head.

KIDS: DIY Game boy costume

As a child of the 80’s, I loved my Game Boy and Tetris was my absolute fave! I still love me some Tetris! I decided it would be fun to turn my sweet baby into one of my beloved childhood toys and make him a DIY Game Boy costume out of a onesie.

Along with my DIY game boy onesie, I’m sharing 88+ more really awesome handmade costume ideas from talented bloggers all over blogland!

Here’s what you need to make the DIY game boy oneisie:

  • white onesie
  • sheets of felt
  • fabric glue
  • fabric scissors
  • a brown lunch sack (or something else to slide inside for the onesie while gluing)

Word to the wise, let the fabric glue dry completely! And don’t expect this onesie costume to be washable. If you’re using fabric glue, this onesie will only last the night. Sewing it all done would be easy and make the costume last a whole heck of a lot longer. First cut out all of your pieces from the felt.

Then, stick your lunch sack inside of the onesie and start gluing. It’s that easy, y’all! Waiting for the Game Boy onesie to dry is the hardest part!DIY Game boy costume

And here is the finished costume sans cute baby:

GROUPS: DIY sharks and surfer

This is such a cute dad and kid costume idea from The fickle pickle! You could DIY or buy pre made shark costumes for the kiddos, and then easily make Dad’s costume from things you already have on hand. The most important part of the costume is the ace bandage and fake blood around the head! You could even DIY a surf board out of foam board or card board for dad to carry around.

BABIES: DIY koala costume

Koala bears are hands down one of the cutest animals ever! And this DIY koala costume on baby Maxwell makes my heart melt. I am a little biased, since I’m his mama! As for the making of the costume, it is so easy! The mask, round white, belly, and felt feet are the only parts to actually make. And it’s all made out of felt! I also love that after Halloween you still have a grey onesie and pants to wear all winter long!

COUPLES: If you give a mouse a cookie costume

I love the book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie… and what a fun costume idea to do with a friend, significant other or even a mom/baby costume! The DIY mouse costume is made mostly out of felt, and the DIY cookie costume is made out of a brown paper bag. So not only is the idea adorable, one of the costumes is even recycled!

GROUPS: Harold and the Purple Crayon Costumes

Harold and the Purple Crayon is a classic kids book! And I love that this family and Grandmother crafted up costumes in honor the book! The stuffed purple crayon complete with the purple cord is the perfect prop for Harold and the Purple Crayon costumes! To make the purple crayon drawings on mom and dad’s t-shirts they first used disappearing ink as an outline. Then they sewed purple t-shirt cording on top of the ink. For a complete tutorial check out Generation T.

KIDS: DIY Queen Elsa costume

Sarah made her daughters day with this DIY Queen Elsa costume!  Her daughter won’t “let it go, let it go”… she wears the Elsa dress all day, every day! I love that the costume actually started out as an apron. That means it will fit for much longer! See the full costume tutorial and lots more pictures  here.

ADULTS: Handmade pinata costume

Catherine turned herself into a living pinata for Halloween! She crafted up the handmade pinata costume out of a nude American Apparel dress and used hot glue to glue down strips of crepe paper to her dress. She did 3 rows of each color. The donkey tail is just made by tying a few long pieces in a knot and safety pinning it to her dress. To see how to make the ears and for the full pinata tutorial check out Rabbit food for my bunny teeth.
