GROUPS: Words with Friends costume

Group Halloween costumes are fun! This is a really awesome idea for a large group… co-workers, sorority, fraternity, or big group of friends! Best of all, it’s easy and cheap to make! If you haven’t heard of the game Words with Friends, check it out! It’s addicting!

All you need to make this Words with Friends group Halloween costume is black pants and a black top. Then grab some cardboard and cut out a square. Cut out 2 per person if you want your letter on your back too. Then use an XACTO knife to round the corners. Print out letters all the same size and font on the computer, cut out, and use glue to adhere each letter to each piece of cardboard! You can attach the letter square to your black shirt a bazillion different ways! Tape, clothes pins, or it can go over your neck with string!

BABIES: DIY Oscar the Grouch costume

The Pink Funny Farm made her little one a DIY Oscar the Grouch costume for Halloween. This costume will take a little time with the sewing machine, but the results are priceless! The tin can is made out of felt and the Oscar part is made out of green fur. Don’t forget to add the trash can lid to his head!

BABIES: DIY Popcorn bag costume

As a mom to a little one still in a baby carrier, this is truly a genius costume! She turned her baby carrier into a popcorn bag with felt. This is a no sew costume, y’all! ADULTS: DIY Medusa costume

Morena’s Corner crafted up this awesome DIY Medusa costume for herself! The snake hair is actually jsut made out of a headband! She found large and small snakes and used chenille pipe cleaners to attach them to a sturdy headband. Check your local Dollar Store for toy snakes! Then, all you’ll need is a white sheet to wrap around your body in toga form! Easy and awesome.

KIDS: DIY Gumball machine costume

The DIY Studio whipped up this adorable kids DIY gumball machine costume! She used a vinyl shower curtain as the plastic pouch that covers the gum balls (or felt balls)! This costume requires some sewing, but it’s totally worth the work! You can see the complete costume tutorial over at the DIY Studio.

COUPLES: DIY Cast away costumes

Want to win a couples costume contest this Halloween?  Here’s a gold medal winning idea… DIY cast away costumes! Dress you and your honey up as the FedEx employee and Wilson from Cast Away! You’ll need to make a giant paper mache sphere to be Wilson and add the iconic red Wilson face. The Fed Ex employee needs to work on his beard growth from now until Halloween! Or just craft one up with makeup! Make a “skirt” out of a brown paper bag, and be sure to carry a FedEx package!

KIDS: DIY Earth and Sun costumes

LoriMessFlint crafted up these DIY Earth and Sun costumes for her kiddos for Spoonful.com Halloween costume contest! How fun are these costumes for siblings…genius!? I know that the kids would have a blast helping make these paper mache costumes too! After you create the paper mache spheres, use puff paint to paint on the details! Don’t forget to glue little astronauts on the moon and use foam to glue the rays of sunshine to the sun!

COUPLES: DIY Popeye and Olive Oyl Costumes

Morena’s Corner used things from her closet to whip up DIY Popeye and Olive Oyl costumes for her and her husband. For Olive Oyl, she attached pieces of lace to the collar and sleeves of a red long sleeved t-shirt. Popeyes costume also started as a blue t-shirt with yellow felt buttons she sewed on. I love how she made the muscles out of panty hose and the pipe from a corn on the cob!

KIDS: DIY Nacho Libre costume

Morena’s Corner crafted up this adorable Nacho Libre costume for her son. She re-used her daughters Wonder Woman red bodysuit and cut the skirt off. Then she sewed on red patches to blue pajama pants and voila… meet Nacho Libre! Oh and don’t forget the mustache!

ADULTS: DIY angel wings costume

A Thrifty Diva came up with this quick, easy and cheap way to create beautiful angel wings! She cut a wing shape out of cardboard, and then traced that shape to cut out the other wing so they matched. Then she just glued little pieces of toilet tissue to them and attached a ribbon to create a strap. Voila – angel wings! The best thing is that you can do this with items you probably already have in your house, and you can wear the wings with almost any outfit to make a fast DIY costume!
