Couples: Quail Man and Patty Mayonnaise Costume

If you grew up watching Nickelodeon in the 90s like me, then you will totally appreciate this amazing couple’s costume! Quail Man and Patty Mayonnaise! Quail Man was the super cool alter ego of Doug, my very favorite TV show as a kid. My brother always loved Rugrats, and I loved Doug. In general, this is a pretty easy costume to make yourself. Most of the pieces are things you may already have or could pick up super cheap at the thrift store (although I’d suggest buying some new white tighties to wear outside of your shorts, lol).

A few tips for making these costumes. To properly make the classic Quail Man belt headband, you will probably need to cut up an old belt. Size the belt perfectly for your head, and cut off the extra piece. Hot glue the belt together into a head band. Then using hot glue, attach the end piece of the belt to the inside of the headband. Also, to add the Q to the shirt, you could just use fabric paint to paint it on to an old tshirt. If you wanted to make something a little more permanent, you could also use iron-on vinyl and a cutting machine. For Quail Man’s cape, you could just tie a red blanket or towel around your neck, or you could pick up a yard of red fleece or fabric at the craft store. Patty’s costume is much simpler, and really just involves putting the right pieces of clothing together, and maybe adding some pink polka dots to a blue shirt.

ADULTS: Deer Costume

This DIY deer costume from Flattery is especially beautiful. The hardest part about this costume is probably making the antlers, which are made out of aluminum foil and paper mache. The body of the costume is made with a brown unitard, some furry fabric, a little felt, and some fabric paint. The most dramatic part of the costume is the deer makeup. You will need a white eye crayon, or white face paint to create the white deer eyes, but otherwise the makeup is pretty standard.

ADULTS: Conversation Heart Leggings

If you’re thinking about making a costume for Valentine’s day, but you want to keep it somewhat low key, these conversation heart leggings by Studio DIY are perfect. You can easily transform plain white leggings into festive Valentine’s leggings with the free printables and iron on transfer paper. (I’ve used iron on transfer paper before for a few projects and I was surprised at how well it worked. Just make sure that you iron around the edges of your hearts for a long time to prevent peeling.) These leggings would be fun to wear to work or school on or around Valentine’s Day, or would be a cute and simple costume to wear to a Valentine’s party.

KIDS: Duct Tape Wings Costume

I love seeing amazing and elaborate things that people make out of duct tape! These duct tape wings by Doodlecraft are no exception. These wings are made mostly out of plain white duct tape and would be perfect for a Cupid costume for Valentine’s day. You could also use these wings as a part of an Angel costume, or another winged creature. To create these wings you will need white duct tape, foam board, wooden sticks, a hot glue gun, scissors, and elastic. You could also pair them with a set of handmade bow and arrows.
